Encinas Rojas : Charles Harker

This house is truly a one of a kind. The Bloomhouse (I've also heard it called the mushroom house) was designed and built by Charles Harker in 1980. There is a fascinating little write up and in progress photos during construction of the house on ecoredux.com. The organic style of the house is somewhat similar to the work of Austin architect John Watson. It's really pretty amazing that we have as many unique houses as we do in Austin. This one is worth the purchase price just in land value. Hopefully the buyer continues to maintain and love this unicorn.

4901 Red River

I love looking at modern homes that have their first decade under their belt and see how the design is holding up. This was a custom build 10 years ago and I have to say that it's still looking pretty good.

3203 Churchill

Here is a great mid century home in Brykerwoods that just needs a little updating. The exterior looks great, and the pool and back yard that overlooks the Shoal Creek greenbelt is amazing. On the inside the good elements are still there (stacked stone fireplace) and the rest is patiently waiting to be brought into the 21st century (or back to mid 20th whatever floats your boat).

04 Flats #107 : Dick Clark

This is quite possibly the most affordable Dick Clark designed housing you could buy these days. The 04 Flats have always been a favorite of mine. It's not just because of the great architecture either. The location is perfect for anyone that likes to be in the mix, and if you could get your hands on a membership at St Cecilia 3 blocks away, it would be even more amazing.

107 Rocket

While most people in Austin are headed North or South in search of affordable housing, I say go West. The older homes in Lakeway are a great value for the money. Take this one for example, sure it needs a bit of updating, but for around the same price as an east Austin tear down you get 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, great atomic ranch architecture and over 1/3 an acre.
