600 Spurlock Valley

Back in 2011 when the current owners bought this house, it was a very, very different looking house. Luckily with a some great vision from Alter Studios and what was a pretty major addition / remodel, the space looks amazing now. Despite lots of concrete and white paint, the painted and natural woods do an amazing job of keeping it feeling warm and inviting. Of course I'm always a sucker for details like grain matched cabinetry, and the perfect amount of overhang on the countertops.

Remember what I was just saying yesterday about heading deeper east? Here is another great example of pushing the boundaries. This Austin Energy 5 star rated home was designed by Camille Jobe AIA and looks like some very well detailed work. I really like the use of plywood on the walls, inside. The detail is a nice complement to the hardy panel exterior and makes for a cohesive look throughout.

The days of affordable housing in East Austin have come and gone. These days price per square foot in the 02 is about on par with it's older brother 78704. If you are willing to push a bit farther than the buzz however, things get a bit better. This new construction would easily be $100k more expensive if it was a bit closer to I35. Lower prices don't mean lower quality however. In fact the details on this one are quite good.

This is a perfect example of good 70's bones that just need a bit of updating. I love the white beams and the Saltillo tiles. Designed in 1970 by architect Girard Kinney it has seen a few updates and expansions over the years. One thing that hasn't changed? The owner. That is until now of course.

1915 E 10th

This one has eclectic East Austin charm written all over it. The 600 sq/ft front house was built in 1900 and the modern house connected behind it adds another 1,400. It's always nice to see someone persevere the original structure and add to it. It looks like a lot of attention was paid to the outdoor spaces as well.
