Last weekend I made my maiden voyage to Houston to check out some museums. We hit up the museum of fine arts, and saw the amazing installation SOTO: The Houston Penetrable (video above).

Austin Modern Homes
I admit there is a small part of me drawn to the country life, and hanging out on my 25 acres in this beautifully updated 1923 ranch home sounds like a dream come true to me. Outdoor shower? Check. Campfire circle? Check. Raised garden? Check. Me with a beer in my hand relaxing in nature? Check!
Price: $1,395,000
Details: 2,350 sf, 4 Bed, 2 Bath
While home ownership can feel increasingly difficult for many people these days, there are still some more affordable options out there still, especially if you are willing to accept a little bit less square footage. This updated 1,000 sf mid century is a great example.
Price: $449,500
Details: 1,000 sf, 3 Bed, 1 Bath
If you know me you know I love a quirky house. Give me a circular living room with a stacked stone fireplace over an open floor plan any day. This 1964 mid century beauty on 4 acres just outside of town seems like a slice of heaven to me.
Price: $1,100,000
Details: 2,275 sf, 3 Bed, 3 Bath
This is not the first time I’ve shared this house and while there is a lot other love about it the 1.3M price decrease since I last shared it may be the biggest selling feature. It’s a great time to be a luxury buyer.
Price: $3,950,000
Details: 4,933 sf, 5 Bed, 6 Bath
This little slice of heaven sits just 2 miles outside of Marfa, close enough enjoy the town but far enough to bath in the solitude of West Texas. Built in 2016 the aesthetic pulls heavily from greats like Corbusier and Saarinen. Check out the write up in AD for the full story.
Price: $2,995,000
Details: 2,304 sf, 3 Bed, 2 Bath
6th and Brushy is probably my favorite east Austin condo’s. It has all the benefits of a downtown condo at a much better price. This has got to be one of the cooler units in the building, complete with 2 car garage and private rooftop deck. Try getting that downtown for this price.
Price: $665, 000
Details: 1,280 sf, 2 Bed, 3 Bath
My favorite thing about modern architecture is when I see something unique and functional. Either is fairly easy to pull off alone, but it’s putting them both together that’s the tricky part. Luckily for the fine folks at North Arrow and DigsAtx this is not their first rodeo.
Price: $795,000
Details: 1,300 sf, 2 Bed, 2 Bath
Is modern Tudor the new modern farmhouse? This isn’t the first one I’ve seen pop up lately and I’ve got a feeling it’s not going to be the last either. Personally while I appreciate some of the character, there are a few details that have me biting my tongue.
Price: $1,650,000
Details: 3,066 sf, 4 Bed, 3 Bath
A.D. Stenger is probably one of Austin’s best know mid century modern architects, but despite building nearly 100 homes there just aren’t too many left that haven’t been significantly altered. This 1965 build has had a modest addition but remains true to the original design.
Price: $2,350,000
Details: 2,200 sf, 4 Bed, 3 Bath
I continue to be very interested in these 3d printed houses. Certainly the design is compelling, and if they can move the needle on affordability that would be a game changer. This Wimberly adjacent home sure is a deal at just over $200 a sq/ft.
Price: $875,000
Details: 4,115 sf, 4 Bed, 4 Bath
Let’s be honest, the 90’s were a bit of a black hole for good architecture. That being said, there were the exceptions and this is a great example of timeless design. The architecture looks as relevant as ever and a thoughtful interior refresh really puts the shine on it.
Price: $1,750,000
Details: 3,089 sf, 4 Bed, 3 Bath
I love the Brown Building for its historic character. If I lived downtown, it would definitely be in this building. I’ve been through a lot of different floor plans in the building and this is by far my favorite. It looks like this one has had a great interior redo as well, combine that with a great price and you really can’t go wrong with this one.
Price: $650,000
Details: 1,287 sf, 2 Bed, 2 Bath
If you know me, you know I’m a huge fan of all the work A.D. Stenger did back in the day. Of all his nearly 100 homes these A frame inspired ones always have a special spot in my heart. This one built in 1965 would have been some of his later work. As is typical this looks like it’s had a full interior remodel and addition, all of which look tasteful. This is a special one folks, go get it.
Price: $1,690,000
Details: 2,554 sf, 3 Bed, 3 Bath
Austin has its fair share of 1970’s organic architecture, the best known architect is probably John Watson. While I wasn’t able to pin down the architect for this one, it definitely falls in the same category. From what I can tell it’s been in the same family for the last 40+ years, what a quirky time capsule from the truly weird days of old Austin.
Price: $1,450,000
Details: 1,528 sf, 2 Bed, 2 Bath
