2700 De Soto

It's not unusual to see a home that looks newer than it really is, most well remodeled mid century modern homes are a good example of that. This house however actually looks older than it is. Not in a bad way though. It was built in 2002, which admittedly was a time when there wasn't a lot of modern going around, but I could swear it looks like some early 90's contemporary. Either way, I'm always happy to see something with that timeless modern look.

I call a lot of 60's ramblers "mid century modern" but this looks like it is the real deal. Just like today the difference between the real deal and imitation is often the involvement of an architect. In this particular case it was apparently Kuehne, Kuehne and Milburn. I love all the original drawings that they still have of the house, though the lack of interior photos tells me it may need a little work. My favorite part? The note that says "Price as per this sketch $21,300". Sigh, I can't even get my landscaping done for that now...

1403 S 6th

Views, huge windows, a wet bar and a roof top deck with grill and kitchenette. Seriously, what more could you ask for. A 2 to 1 ration on bathrooms to bedrooms? Sure, seems a bit much but why not. Seriously minus the pool this house has it all. Great location too.

You know I'm always a sucker for a black house. There is just something so dramatic about them. This one comes by way of Hatch Works who have built quite a few similar homes on the east side. The dark motif carries inside as well, but manages to do it without feeling to dark and moody.

2311 Shoal Creek

Is it just me, or does this seem like a good deal for a nice original early modern home in Shoal Creek? This former home of Ann Richards looks like it is still mostly original inside. I love seeing materials like Saltillo tile and laminate cabinetry in these old homes. They age so well and look just as in style now as they ever did.

1708 Harvey

This detached condo is a handsome example of good infill. I love the overall shape of the building and it has some nice detail. Lot's of good natural light on the inside and plenty of extra deck space too. There are a few questionable choice though like those floors and tile countertops (who does that still?). All that being said, the price per square foot on these is a steal!
