504 Spiller : Grotto Dome House - John Watson

This is a truly unique home with an interesting history. Designed by architect John Watson in 1978, it is one of Austin's best examples of organic architecture. Watson studied under Frank Lloyd Wright in Taliesin in the 50's and worked on the Usonian houses, the Guggenheim Museum and the Marin County Civic Center.

John describes the Grotto Dome house like this. "The Grotto Dome on Spiller Lane in Austin was designed to complement and reflect a thousand-year-old rock formation in its glass facade. A recirculating waterfall cascades into a pool below the entrance deck creating an intimate exterior space equal to the interior of the structure itself. A 50 ft arched visor of unite cantilevers over the glass wall and protects the sitting area from sun and rain." via

Another "Tetris house" hit the market in Agave this week. While these blocky modern homes aren't necessarily my favorites in Agave, they are still pretty great homes for the price. This particular home was designed by Kevin Stewart (remember him from yesterday?).

This home reminds me of the one on Marlo Dr that was for sale in the Mueller area a while ago, and I've got to say, I really dig the stark white with the wood accents. This particular one was designed by local architect Kevin Stewart who's past work has included a few restaurants.

613 W Live Oak : MJ Neal

When this house was built in 2001, times were very different. Dwell Magazine was still in it's first year of print, the iMac still looked like a regular computer monitor (but with colors!) and this amazing house designed by local architect MJ Neal was built in the heart of 78704. The house is a true testimony that good design is timeless. Though this home is almost 14 years old, it still looks better than the majority of the homes being passed off as "modern" today. You don't see a lot of new construction in Brentwood but this duplex originally built in 2009 looks like it was done right.
