504 Spiller : John Watson

Remember this one? It's back, and even more affordable than it was before. This is probably one of the most unique homes in Austin. To refresh your memory this house was designed by John Watson, and Austin based architect that studied under Frank Lloyd Wright back in the day. John was know for his organic architecture (as seen here) and build a number of unique homes like this in Austin. You can read more about him here. John, if you are out there drop me a line. I've had lots of your old friends and colleagues contact me trying to get ahold of you.

601 Kinney

They say you get what you pay for, and with that in mind, there is a reason this Jay Hargrave designed house is priced at 3.2 million dollars. The specs and finishes read like a designers dream team; Bulthaup kitchen, Miele and Liebherr appliances and lot's of concrete and glass offset by warm built in cabinetry. Best part of all though is that despite the extravagant interior, the house is actually very subdued from the street. Nicely played.

2000 Alta Vista

This home is one of those truly original homes that can't be compared to anything else. At it's core is a 16' barrel vaulted atrium that creates a dramatic indoor outdoor connection. Speaking of outdoors, this place is an absolute refuge. It sits on 1/3 of an acre and is surrounded by mature landscaping and amazing gardens. Truly a one of a kinds.

10509 Superview

I'm going to go ahead and say that this house is on an aptly named road. It would be hard to call the view from that pool anything other than super. This house is also a great example of how location can save you a lot of money. If you don't mind driving 20 min to get downtown, your overall cost is going to be way lower. The biggest beef I have with this house is those stained concrete floors, but that's an easy fix.

919 Cardinal Ln #2

I've been through quite a few homes designed by KRDB, and this one has all the signature components that Kris seems to like to incorporate. The material pallets is simple, and includes concrete blocks. The windows are plentiful and there is a interior courtyard that encourages a strong indoor outdoor connection while still maintaining privacy. Classic, clean, modern.

2008 Rue de St Tropez

Schwing! Now this is my kind of house. A true modern masterpiece by Sago International. I can see all sorts of influences from the roots of modernism in this one. The window layouts remind me of the Eames case study house, while all the steel and glass punctuated by the white walls have me thinking of Mies & Neutra. The interior doesn't disappoint either. This is a house that will always look timeless. Bonus: It's on a street with a fancy name.
