3409 Spanish Oak

My pick today is a quirky little mid century modern home built in 1954. It's being billed as a tear down, but from the pictures I can see it has some serious potential. Especially that living room with it's glass wall connecting it to the deck. And don't even get me started on that amazing fireplace. Unfortunately one of the best things about the house is both working for it and against it. The HUGE .67 acre lot is in an amazing location, just minutes from downtown, but with a wonderful wilderness feel to it. Hopefully someone saves this great example of 50's architecture.

410 Brady : William Clay Grobe

I love seeing houses that architects design for themselves. This particular gem was designed by architect William Clay Grobe in 1973, and he has been the only owner until now. I couldn't find much info about Mr Grobe online, but the little I did made it seem like he did mostly commercial work, which is a shame, because I'd love to see more homes like this one. I love the long roof overhangs and how well the wood siding and cement block has aged, almost matching each other in color. And that 1/4 acre lot. Swoon. The house does need a bit of updating, but it is a perfect location and perfect start to a very nice new home.

6005 Toscana : Agave

I'm going to cap out this week of 1.2 million dollar homes with something a little bit more attainable for most of us. Enter Agave. If you like modern, and you don't know about Agave, we should really talk. There is amazing value in the neighborhood, and some really great people that live out there as well. This home is a good example of what you see out there. Playful, modern, and priced well under $300,000.

If you are looking for a ultra modern home in Barton Hills, you'll have a hard time finding something better than this one. Designed by Brett Grinkmeyer and inspired by the mid century homes built by Joseph Eichler, this 4 bedroom 3 1/2 bathroom home features multiple courtyards and intimate connections with the outdoor environment. I'm particularly fond of the use of wood on the ceiling of outdoor areas as well.
