The inverted butterfly roof is such an iconic mid century roof line, and in my opinion one that looks best on a single story house. Davey McEathron did some great sleight of hand though by creating a floating wooden volume that compliments the roof. The same thoughtful adaptation of mid century style can be found throughout the house.

I love this house. Designed by Alter Studio and featured in Dwell it’s always my go to example of how you can keep the existing historic architecture of a neighborhood and thoughtfully modernize it. In this case it started out as a 1927 bungalow and received a modernist addition connected via a glass hallway. The photos here don’t do it justice.
