I have to admit with all the Saltillo tile and the vaulted ceilings I though this one was built in the 50’s, but it turns out it stated at as a 1938 bungalow. Luckily all the updates look right at home on this one (get it!) and it looks like a lovely place to live.

1111 W 31st : Leonard Lundgren

Unfortunately this one is doubly depressing. This 1953 mid century modern home designed by architect Leonard Lundgren is being billed as a tear down, with demo permit already approved. The high price tag comes from the large amount of land, which is where it gets even sadder. The adjacent lot that is being included in the sale is the former site for the William O’Connell designed home we featured last year. The home unfortunately is no longer with us. Pour one out for Austin architecture today. :(

The pictures on this home don't do it justice, so let me paint you a picture of what we've got here. The following is based on connecting a few dots I found while digging into the history of this house. This is a one owner home, designed by architect William O'Connell in 1955 for himself and his large family. From the street it's modest and unassuming but the house looks out over it's nearly .4 acres on the edge of Shoal Creek. The bones are there people, now it just needs a passionate buyer committed to bringing it back to it's former glory.
