You’ve probably seen this one kicking around before. It’s the former home of Governor Ann Richards, which is enough to make me like it all by itself. Besides that though it’s pretty notable mid century modernist architecture on a particularly amazing lot. I’m actually amazed no one has done a tasteful update on this one yet.

2846 San Gabriel : Tom Hurt

Just when I thought things were slowing down a whole bunch of amazing new listings came on the market today. My favorite of all of them is this gorgeous house designed by Tom Hurt. It’s just been 6 short years since it was built, but the design looks fresh as ever. I’m particularly fond of all that maple cabinetry, that’s a trend that is past due to come back.

1111 W 31st : Leonard Lundgren

Unfortunately this one is doubly depressing. This 1953 mid century modern home designed by architect Leonard Lundgren is being billed as a tear down, with demo permit already approved. The high price tag comes from the large amount of land, which is where it gets even sadder. The adjacent lot that is being included in the sale is the former site for the William O’Connell designed home we featured last year. The home unfortunately is no longer with us. Pour one out for Austin architecture today. :(
