1005 Cardinal #A

Here's a nice infill project by Forsite Studio. I'm always a sucker for a project with a knotty pine facade. It makes for a nice balance to the clean modern lines. The interior looks great as well, though I'm still confused by these tiny tubs I've been seeing. Are they supposed to be ofuros or just trick photography making them look small?

According to the current owner of this house it was originally built by A.D. Stenger but designed by Earl Nesbitt (who worked for Page Sutherland Page before opening his own firm in Austin). I've never heard of Stenger building other architects designs, but I have heard that he was building into the 70's and 80's so I suppose it's plausible.

When this KRDB house was built in 2011 the SOL development felt like it was deep in East Austin. Nowadays it's just blocks from the new Springdale General and other new east Austin projects. I imagine in 6 more years it's almost going to feel like it's right in the middle of things.

While I am a big fan of clean well detailed modern design, I have to admit there is something charming about a house that is a big less refined. This updated 1940's cottage has some nice interior spaces and character for days.

I used to live right around the corner from this little east side gem. The location was fantastic 4 years ago and it's only gotten better since then. Lots of great restaurants and bars in the area and easy walking distance to the lake. The condo is over 10 years old now but the design has held up well to the test of time.
